It was found that rising temperatures are also affecting people’s sleep. Chennai was the most affected city in India, where sleep is estimated to be reduced by about 93 hours every year. This was followed by Mumbai (84 hours), Kolkata (80 hours), Ahmedabad (78 hours), Hyderabad (75 hours), Bengaluru (67 hours), Delhi (66 hours) and Pune (65 hours).

The study also states that the decrease of about 5 to 8 hours in total sleep time in these cities every year may be related to the increased night temperatures due to climate change. Experts say that this is an effect of the changing climate, which is important to pay attention to.

According to Climate Central, for good sleep it is necessary for the body temperature to naturally drop slightly. But when the heat persists even at night, the body may face difficulty in cooling down. This may cause difficulty in falling asleep quickly or you may wake up repeatedly during the night.
