New Delhi: NoAmidst the increasing trend of fake accounts and fake profiles created by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Facebook is taking a big step to increase the trust of users. Now the company will give free ‘Verified’ badge to genuine users. For this you just have to submit a short selfie video. This step has been taken because due to AI technology it has become very easy to create fake photos and profiles. The purpose of this new Facebook Verified system is to help users identify whether they are talking to a real person or not.

Now everyone can get verification

Till now, verification badge i.e. blue tick was generally available only to celebrities, public figures or those who took services by paying money. But through this new system, common users will also be able to get verified badges for free. For this, eligible users will have to record a short selfie video and submit it. Facebook will match this video with the photos on the account and verify that the account belongs to a real person.

The process will be completed in a few minutes

Facebook says that this verification process will usually be completed within a few minutes. But there are some conditions for this. Your account should not have any history of fraud, fraudulent or fake activity. Also, this facility is only available to people 18 years of age or older whose personal account is in good standing. Currently this is not available for verification pages and profiles using professional mode.

Where will this badge be seen?

After completion of verification, this badge will appear in sections like user’s profile, Facebook Marketplace, Dating and Groups. The company plans to show it on news feed posts in the future. Once the verification is complete, you will not have to repeat this process. No extra subscription fee will be charged for this.

Verified badge is not a guarantee of trust

The company has also made it clear that getting the verified badge does not mean that the person is trustworthy or that Facebook supports him. This badge simply confirms that the account belongs to a real person. Verified accounts must also follow Facebook’s community standards and commerce policies. The company has said that action will also be taken against the genuine people who break the rules.

The feature will gradually come to all countries

This new verified system of Facebook is being launched in some selected markets first. Later it will be brought to the rest of the world also. Facebook believes that in the increasing era of fake accounts created by AI, this system will prove to be very helpful in differentiating between real and fake accounts.
