2,800 new electric buses will soon run in Delhi. The Center has sanctioned Rs 2,403 crore. Under EV Policy 2026, tax exemption, incentives and 30 thousand charging points will be created.

New Delhi. To further improve the transport system of Delhi, about 2,800 new electric buses are going to hit the roads soon. Delhi government gave this information on Tuesday. In a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet, ministers also discussed several other agendas like the inclusion of new electric buses in the capital as well as the startup ecosystem.

Delhi Infrastructure gets major approval of Rs 2,403 crore from the Central Government

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also informed that the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 2,403 crore to boost the infrastructure of Delhi. This amount will be used for expansion of metro lines, EV system and other projects.

The CMO said, “Under the visionary leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government has approved an infrastructure boost of Rs 2,403 crore for Delhi. From the Metro extension and Barapulla Elevated Corridor to EV infrastructure and 28 mega development projects, this historic support will accelerate Delhi’s transformation into a modern, connected and future-ready capital.”

Electric vehicles will get a big boost under Delhi EV Policy 2026

All these projects are part of the big effort of the Delhi Cabinet, under which electric vehicles are being promoted. Let us tell you that on June 29, the Cabinet had approved the Delhi EV Policy 2026. This is a major initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the national capital and reducing vehicle pollution.

Delhi EV policy will be implemented from July 1, 2026, will remain in effect till 2030

According to the statement of Delhi CMO, this policy will come into effect from July 1, 2026 and will run till March 31, 2030. It is designed to promote zero-emission mobility. For this, financial discounts on different categories of vehicles, expansion of infrastructure and gradual change in rules have been made.

You will get the benefit of tax exemption, scrapping incentive and DBT on EV purchase.

Under this policy, 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees will be available on electric vehicles. This benefit will be applicable on four-wheelers priced up to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Purchase incentives include discounts of up to Rs 30,000 on electric two-wheelers, up to Rs 50,000 on electric three-wheelers and up to Rs 1 lakh on N1 freight vehicles. Apart from this, scrapping incentive ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1 lakh will also be given for replacing old and polluting vehicles with electric models.

Preparation to install more than 30,000 EV charging points in Delhi

Another highlight of the policy is the large-scale expansion of EV charging infrastructure, under which it is proposed to install more than 30,000 charging points across Delhi. The incentive amount will be sent directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
