Explosion in firecracker factory, 2 killed
Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [भारत]July 25 (ANI): Two workers were killed after a sudden massive explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Kunda Basi village of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Police and local administration reached the spot and immediately launched a search operation to identify the type of firecracker involved.
Saharanpur District Magistrate and Collector, Arvind Kumar Chauhan, while speaking to reporters, confirmed the details of the incidents and said that local law enforcement and administrative teams were immediately mobilized to secure the area and launch a thorough investigation. “There was an explosion in a firecracker factory in Kunda Basi village…Two workers died in the blast. Police and administration are conducting searches…Investigation is underway to find out what kind of firecrackers were involved,” he said.
Ammonia gas leaks in meat plant, 14 women fall ill
In a separate incident earlier this week, at least 14 female workers were hospitalized after ammonia gas leaked at a meat processing plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The incident took place at around 1:00 pm at ALM Industries Limited located in Gagalhedi police station area, where several women were engaged in packaging work.
The sudden gas leak caused chaos and panic in the premises, causing difficulty in breathing, panic and dizziness among many workers, while some fainted on the spot. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar, Subodh Kumar said that as soon as the information was received, the State Disaster Response Team (SDRT), local police led by station in-charge (SHO) Dharmendra Singh and a fire brigade unit immediately reached the spot.
SDM Subodh Kumar told reporters, “On July 21, at around 1:00 pm, a gas leak was reported at Alam Industries Limited in Gagalhedi police station area. Preliminary investigation revealed ammonia gas leak, due to which the health of 14 female employees deteriorated. They were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, and all are currently safe. Further legal action is underway in the matter.”
Work at the processing plant was temporarily stopped after the incident. Administrative authorities and concerned departments have initiated a formal investigation to find out the exact cause of the leak. (ANI)
