In the monsoon session of Parliament, several important bills will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday, including the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill and the Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Private members’ bills will also be discussed in both the houses.
New Delhi [भारत]July 24 (ANI): Important legislative business is scheduled to take place in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Friday during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. A number of important Bills have been listed for consideration, passing and introduction.
Legislative work in Lok Sabha
In the Lok Sabha, the government will introduce the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce the bill, which seeks to further amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956. This legislative action will be taken up with a legislative motion moved by opposition MPs Saugata Roy, NK Premachandran and Dean Kuriakose, seeking to reject the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026, promulgated by the President on May 16.

During Private Members’ Business scheduled from 3:30 pm to 6 pm, several Bills are listed for introduction. The bills listed in the Lok Sabha include proposals related to constitutional amendment, welfare of senior citizens, protection of fishermen, right to privacy, renewable energy resources, cultural heritage, disaster management, prohibition of cow slaughter and welfare of students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. The bills to be introduced include the Kashmiri Pandit (Assistance, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) Bill, 2025, by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and the SPANDAN Bill, 2026, by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, which aims to strengthen the National Cultural Mapping Mission.
Before legislative proceedings, the agenda of the Lok Sabha includes Question Hour, laying of papers by ministers and statements by the Public Accounts Committee. Congress MPs KC Venugopal and Amar Singh are scheduled to make statements related to the Public Accounts Committee’s action taken report on issues including the Indian Coast Guard, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, Indian Railways’ suburban train services, narcotics management, food safety implementation and defence-related procurement. The House will also consider the reports of the Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, which includes reports from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and Higher Education.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, the government will introduce and consider the Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move to introduce the bill and will later seek consideration and passage of the law.
The Mithila Central University Bill, 2026, will also be introduced in the Upper House by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, which seeks to establish a central university in the Mithila region for the promotion and preservation of Mithila culture, heritage, Maithili language and Tirhuta script.
Other bills to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha include the Cosmetics Bill, 2026, introduced by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sasmit Patra, which aims to regulate cosmetic products and ensure consumer safety; the Marriage Equality Bill, 2026, which seeks to amend marriage laws, by TMC MP Derek O’Brien; and the Media Transparency and Public Trust Bill, 2026, by CPI(M) MP V. Sivadasan, which focuses on transparency in the ownership, funding and functioning of media organizations.
The Upper House will also consider the Climate Resilient Agriculture and Farmers Protection Bill, 2025, introduced by Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary, which seeks to set up a national mission to address the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity and protect the interests of farmers.
The day’s proceedings in both the houses will begin at 11 am, with government business scheduled till noon, after which private members will have legislative work. (ANI)
