According to recent medical reports and a study published in BMJ Case Reports, the excess caffeine, sugar and chemicals present in these drinks can gradually damage the liver. Doctors say that this habit is now becoming a hidden danger, which can cause serious illness in the long run. Repeated consumption without knowledge further increases the risk. Why is excessive consumption of energy drinks dangerous for the liver? What does research say?
A case study published in the medical journal BMJ Case Reports It was revealed that excessive consumption of energy drinks can be seriously harmful to the liver. According to this study, the excessive amount of niacin i.e. Vitamin B3 present in them can have a toxic effect on the liver, which can lead to a condition like acute hepatitis. Apart from this, these drinks contain ingredients like high sugar, caffeine and taurine, which put additional pressure on the liver.
Sometimes the amount of caffeine in them exceeds the safe limit, which affects the metabolism of the body. Continuous consumption leads to accumulation of fat in the liver, which increases inflammation and oxidative stress. Over time, this condition can affect liver function and increase the risk of serious diseases. If this habit is not stopped in time, the risk of liver damage can increase significantly.
Liver diseases are increasing rapidly among youth, 25 to 30% of urban population is affected.
According to experts, liver related problems are increasing rapidly among the youth in India. Especially in the age group of 20 to 30 years, more cases of fatty liver and other liver diseases are being seen. A major reason for this is energy drinks, sweet beverages and unhealthy lifestyle.
Reports suggest that around 25 to 30% of the urban population may be affected by Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). This condition becomes more serious when people continue to consume these beverages for a long time and ignore the initial symptoms. Lack of physical activity and poor eating habits also increase this problem. In such a situation, it is very important to be aware in time.
Consuming alcohol and making it a habit is the biggest danger.
Doctors have warned that drinking energy drinks mixed with alcohol can be extremely dangerous. The effect of caffeine hides the intoxication of alcohol, due to which the person consumes alcohol more than his limit. This has double effect on the liver and the damage increases rapidly. Consuming it continuously and in large quantities can lead to the development of serious conditions like inflammation, fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver.
Apart from this, this habit can gradually take the form of addiction, making it difficult for the person to leave it. Experts say that it is very important to control this habit in time, and balanced diet, regular exercise and awareness are the most effective ways to prevent it.
