Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Wednesday supported the ongoing students’ protest at Jantar Mantar, saying the central government should listen to the concerns of the students. Speaking to reporters, Banerjee extended her support to the student protests being led by the Cockroach Janata Party.
Strong criticism of police action
On July 20, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had staged a ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in the national capital, prompting police action. Opposition leaders have strongly criticized the police action and alleged that the protesters were “lathi-charged” and tear gas shells were fired. He further said, “We will support it. What Narendra Modi has done is unfortunate. If you don’t listen to the students, then whom will you listen to?”
Banerjee got angry on reporter’s question
Furthermore, Banerjee lost her temper when a reporter questioned her about the alleged attacks on security personnel and journalists during the protests. He said, “If you want to ask questions like Godi Media, then ask. I will not say anything. Would you do this to the youth of the country? Then why wouldn’t they do it? … Why did you go there? They know you are Godi Media. What they are doing is right.”
The matter echoed in Parliament also
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief whip in Rajya Sabha Nadimul Haq has given notice under Rule 267 for discussion in the House on the alleged police action against student protests organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in the national capital during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. According to the notice, Haq has sought an immediate discussion on “the atrocities of Delhi Police against the students who were peacefully protesting on July 20”.
Meanwhile, opposition MPs today protested outside the Makar Gate of Parliament demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Protests by opposition MLAs have raised concerns over the irregularities in the NEET UG exam. They also protested against the police action against students on July 20. (ANI)
