India’s UPI has now started in Greece also. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that with this facility customers will be able to transfer money securely at very low cost. This has been made possible under the partnership of Eurobank and NIPL.

New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now reached Greece. This will enable eligible customers to transfer money at much lower transaction costs than traditional international transfers.

Goyal wrote on Twitter that he witnessed a live demonstration of the Eurobank-NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) partnership, which is enabling UPI services, at Eurobank’s headquarters in Athens. He said this is another milestone in the global expansion of India’s digital payments ecosystem.

He said, “It was a pleasure to witness the live demonstration of the Eurobank-NIPL partnership enabling UPI services with its CEO Mr. Fokion Karavias and Mr. Sanjay Tugnat, CEO of Fairfax Digital Services at Eurobank’s headquarters in Athens. This is another important milestone in the global expansion of India’s digital payments ecosystem.” Goyal further highlighted that now that UPI is live in Greece, eligible customers can send money instantly, securely and seamlessly at a much lower cost than traditional cross-border transfer charges. “With UPI going live in Greece, eligible customers can transfer money instantly, securely and seamlessly at a fraction of traditional transfer costs,” he said.

Goyal praised PM Narendra Modi for the increasing global acceptance of UPI. He further said that the growing adoption and appreciation for UPI reflects PM Modi’s vision of creating technology-based solutions that create value beyond borders and deepen partnerships for shared growth and prosperity. “The growing global acceptance and appreciation of UPI reflects confidence in PM @NarendraModi ji’s vision of creating technology-based solutions that create value beyond borders and deepen partnerships for shared growth and prosperity,” he said.

Earlier this year, the Government of India had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 23 countries for cooperation on India Stack/Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). Additionally, UPI was live in more than eight countries including UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius and Qatar. According to a statement from the Ministry of Electronics and IT, “MoUs have been signed with Cuba, Kenya, United Arab Emirates and Lao People’s Democratic Republic (LPDR) for DigiLocker.” (ANI)
