In Saharsa, Bihar, the groom, who came to get married in an intoxicated state, was rejected by the bride before the garland. There was a ruckus in Sattar Panchayat of Bihara police station area when the groom reached the stage in an inebriated state.

When the marriage broke down, the matter reached the police station. The matter was calmed down due to the promptness of the police, but the bride’s side was adamant on the demand of refund of Rs 5 lakh of expenses. After getting assurance of returning the money, the groom along with his father and the leader were freed.

According to the information, the marriage of a girl resident of Ward No. 2 of Sattar Panchayat was fixed with Rohan Kumar, a permanent resident of Purnia and currently a resident of Shivpuri Mohalla of Saharsa. When the groom was brought on the stage after the wedding procession reached the door, he was found completely drunk. It was found out that he was a drug addict. Seeing the groom’s actions and ruckus on the stage, the girl rejected him. The bride’s side and the local people became angry at this. After this, the girl’s family also flatly refused to marry their daughter to a drug addict groom.

Demand to return five lakh rupees given in dowry

Seeing the situation worsening, the wedding procession started returning from there but the girl’s side and the villagers stopped the groom, his father along with the leader. The girl’s father alleged that both taking and giving dowry are crimes, despite this he had sold five kattha land and given Rs 5 lakh to the groom’s side after demanding dowry. After the marriage broke up, the family demanded the full amount be returned. On receiving information about the incident, Bihara police station reached the spot. First Puani Raju Kumar arrived with the police force and tried to convince the people, but the villagers remained adamant on the demand of returning the money.

Agreement reached on police initiative

Seeing the situation worsening, Bihara Police Station Head Inspector Sanjay Kumar Satyarthi reached the spot with additional police force. He pacified the matter by talking to both the parties and brought the groom and other people to the police station. Later, a mutual agreement was reached between the two parties, in which the groom’s side accepted to return the dowry money. The police station chief said that till the time of sending the news, no written complaint had been given from any party. At the same time, the decision of refusing to marry the drunk groom was highly appreciated by the local people.
