Ranchi (Jharkhand) [भारत]July 29 (ANI): Amid the nationwide debate over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, students in Ranchi on Wednesday took out a march from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to Albert Chowk, protesting the functioning of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The protesting students alleged that the examinations conducted by the commissions were not being conducted in a fair and transparent manner and demanded accountability in the recruitment process. During the march, student Khushi Kumari told ANI, “Our only demand is that the Public Service Commission exams be conducted fairly and with transparency.”
Students alleged rigging in the recruitment process
Another student alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, claiming that the entire JPSC recruitment system was affected by malpractices. He said, “The entire recruitment process of JPSC is full of malpractices. Some of my batchmates, with whom I studied, had already told me who would be selected…”
Falguni, a student who appeared in the JPSC examination from Dhanbad, alleged anomalies in the examination process. “I come from Dhanbad. I had given the JPSC exam. We found several anomalies in the process. The cut-off marks for 14th JPSC were not released, and several errors were found in the OMR sheets,” she said.
He further said, “Our demand is that the 14th JPSC exam should be canceled and a new exam should be conducted under a fair and proper process. We also want complete accountability and transparency in the recruitment process.”
BJP cornered the government, demanded CBI investigation
Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev said that thousands of students have come out on the streets of Ranchi against the alleged rigging in the preliminary examination of Civil Services Examination of Jharkhand Public Service Commission.
In a post on Twitter, tagging Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shah Dev said that the national anthem and national anthem were being sung together during the protests. “Thousands of students have come out on the streets of Ranchi against the rigging of PT examination of Civil Services Examination of Jharkhand Public Service Commission. The issue was also raised in Parliament, where BJP MPs led by Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu protested in the Parliament complex against the alleged JSSC, JPSC and product constable recruitment scams. The BJP demanded a CBI probe into the recruitment scams and strict action against the culprits, saying “any playing with the future of the youth will not be tolerated.”
CID investigation intensified, 8 people arrested
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had intensified investigation into alleged irregularities in the examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), in which around eight people have been arrested so far. The arrests were made in two phases, with five persons being held first and three later.
Following the arrest, the CID took five earlier arrested accused on police remand for five days from yesterday for questioning. The five accused have been identified as JPSC’s former Deputy Examination Controller Shweta Gupta, TDPL Director Ramveer Singh, Mohd. Usman, Mohd. Ibad and Abhay Kumar Tiwari.
What is the whole controversy of 14th JPSC exam?
The controversy started when JPSC declared the preliminary exam results of the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination earlier this month. Against 103 vacancies, the Commission shortlisted 2204 candidates for the main examination. Soon after, candidates started raising many questions. The first demand was to publish category-wise cut-off marks, which the Commission did not release along with the result. The second objection was on the merit list itself. (ANI)
