What is LSE 24?
The London Stock Exchange has announced the launch of a new trading platform called LSE 24. Through this, investors will be able to trade 24 hours a day, five days a week. Its purpose is to provide investors from different countries the opportunity to trade as per their timing and to respond immediately to major global developments.
When will there be 24 hours trading in the stock market?
Testing of this system is expected to start by the end of 2026. After getting all the necessary approvals, it can be started in the first half of 2027. There will be trading of ETPs (Exchange Traded Products) in the initial phase. After this, common shares (equity) will also be added to it.
What will be the trading timings?
LSE 24 will operate from Monday to Friday. Trading will continue from approximately 5:00 pm to 7:50 am. There will be a break of 30 minutes daily from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. At the same time, the general market of the London Stock Exchange will continue to operate as per its old schedule. That means the new platform will work separately along with the existing exchange.
Why was there a need for 24 hour trading?
Today investors across the world live in different time zones. Many times a big news comes after the market is closed, but trading is possible only the next day. The objective of LSE 24 is to enable investors to take immediate decisions on such news. This will make it easier to reduce risk and capture new investment opportunities.
