The ship carrying LPG is about to reach India
Marshall Islands-flagged LPG vessel MT Sarv Shakti, carrying 46,313 metric tonnes of Indian LPG, has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. It can reach Visakhapatnam by 13 May 2026. This is expected to further strengthen the LPG supply in the country.
Domestic LPG supply completely normal
The government has made it clear that 100% supply of domestic LPG, PNG and CNG is being ensured. On May 2, about 47 lakh LPG cylinders were distributed across the country. There is no situation like dry-out i.e. end of supply.
Improvement in booking and delivery
Online booking has reached 99%, while DAC based delivery has reached 94%. The booking interval has been increased from 21 to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas.
Priority fixed in commercial LPG
The supply of commercial LPG has now reached about 70% of the pre-crisis level. Priority is being given to hospital, education and pharma sectors. Since April 2026, 2.14 lakh metric tonnes of commercial LPG has been sold.
5 kg cylinder and awareness campaign
The supply of 5 kg cylinders has been increased for laborers and the needy. 23.44 lakh small cylinders were sold since April. PSU oil companies have organized more than 10,100 awareness camps.
Expansion of PNG and CNG
Domestic PNG and CNG are being given priority. Since March 2026, 6.04 lakh new PNG connections have been activated, while 43,630 people have switched from LPG to PNG.
Strictness and monitoring increased
States have been given the right to take action under the Essential Commodities Act. More than 1900 raids were conducted, action was taken against 349 distributors and 74 were suspended.
Fuel and refinery situation strong
All the refineries of the country are working at full capacity. There is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel and there has been no increase in prices. The government has reduced the excise duty by ₹10 per litre.
Indians safe abroad
The Ministry of External Affairs is keeping an eye on the situation. Flights from many countries including UAE are normal and so far 2,504 Indians have been evacuated safely from Iran. Overall, the government says that the supply of LPG and fuel in the country is completely under control and there is no need to panic.
