Many reasons are given behind the ban on entry of non-Hindus into Jagannath temple. It is said that during the Mughal period, many unsuccessful attempts were made to demolish the Jagannath temple. Later the scholars banned the entry of people of any religion other than Hindus into this temple so that no heretic could enter the temple and try to defile it.
