When did Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena face major breakdowns?

Shiv Sena, founded by Balasaheb Thackeray on 19 June 1966, was for a long time among the most influential regional parties in Maharashtra. But with time the party went through many major divisions.

The first major rift emerged in the 1990s when Chhagan Bhujbal left the party. After this, Narayan Rane’s separation in 2005 was considered a big blow for Shiv Sena. In 2006, Raj Thackeray broke away from the party and formed Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which challenged Shiv Sena’s traditional vote bank.

2022 rebellion changed the picture of the party

The biggest break in the history of Shiv Sena was seen in 2022, when a large group of MLAs separated under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. After this the party got divided into two factions and the fight from organization to election symbol reached the court and the Election Commission.

Now once again the discussions about possible dissatisfaction of MPs and MLAs have increased the problems of the Uddhav Thackeray camp. Although the situation is not clear yet, the next few days are considered very important in Maharashtra politics. This may prove to be another big political test for Shiv Sena which is going to complete 60 years.
