After winning the T20 World Cup and then dealing with the action of IPL 2026, Team India has suffered a major setback. After becoming T20 World Champion for the second consecutive time in March 2026, the Indian team suffered a crushing defeat as soon as it took the field for the first time in this format. That too at the hands of Ireland. The defeat by 34 runs in the first match of the T20 series in Belfast has shocked everyone. After this defeat, the team’s opener Abhishek Sharma revealed a shortcoming in the bowling, on which front the inexperienced Irish bowlers performed much better.

Friday evening 26th June in Belfast India-Ireland The 2 match T20 series started between. With this, Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy journey also began. But as soon as the journey started, the wheel of Team India’s car went into a pit and it got a severe shock. In the first match of this series, host Ireland, despite a bad start, made a strong score of 182 runs and then bowled out Team India for just 148 runs.

Abhishek Sharma told where was the shortcoming?

Looking at the score, it seems that the batting failed, which is also true, but in reality, Team India’s bowling also disappointed in this matter. Star opener Abhishek Sharma, who played an inning of 50 runs in just 20 balls for Team India, also mentioned this after the match while explaining the difference between the two teams. Abhishek said, “As a bowling unit, the areas in which they bowled were better than us. That’s how you learn as a team. We also got to learn from them through this match.”

Abhishek also admitted that the Indian team liked the cold conditions of Ireland because the players had been playing in the summer continuously for the last 3 months. But he admitted that despite this, the team could not adapt itself quickly to the circumstances and he saw the impact of this too. It was not only the weather but also the pitch of Belfast, which proved to be completely different from the Indian pitches.

Indian bowlers made this mistake

Let us explain to you a little about what Abhishek is saying. In fact, at the Civil Service Cricket Club ground in Belfast, the boundaries on the right and left sides (squares) of the pitch were slightly larger, while the boundaries in front and behind the wicket were not that far apart. The Indian bowlers made a mistake here and they gave more chances to the Irish batsmen to hit straight shots, due to which they changed the course of their innings by scoring 46 runs in just 2 overs.

On the contrary, Ireland kept the ball away from the Indian batsmen, due to which it was not easy for them to play straight shots and they kept losing wickets while playing half shots. From India’s side, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh gave less such opportunities and both these bowlers proved to be the most successful. Whereas Jai Mundhra, Matthew Hollard, who were debuting for Ireland, and Liam McCarthy, who was playing only his second match, gave less such opportunities and they benefited from it.
