Indian weightlifter Rishikant Singh won the silver medal in the 60 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Made a record of 121 kg snatch, but missed the gold by a small margin.
New Delhi. Indian weightlifter Chanambam Rishikant Singh performed brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games 2026 and won the silver medal for the country. He won the silver medal in the men’s 60 kg weightlifting competition played in Glasgow on Sunday. With this achievement, he won India’s first silver medal of these games. After his victory, many leaders including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi congratulated him. This is also the second medal of Commonwealth Games 2026 for India. Earlier, para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar had opened the country’s account by winning the bronze medal.

Weightlifting Result: Despite record snatch, Rishikant missed gold
According to ESPN, Rishikant Singh lifted a total weight of 264 kg. This included 121 kg snatch and 143 kg clean and jerk. Malaysia’s Mohammad Anik Kasdan set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting a total of 273 kg (121 kg snatch + 152 kg clean and jerk) and won the gold medal. Whereas Joshua Mboya of Kenya won the bronze medal by lifting a total weight of 260 kg (115 kg snatch + 145 kg clean and jerk).
60 Kg Weightlifting Final: This is how the entire competition progressed
At the beginning of the competition, Rishikant Singh successfully lifted 116 kg snatch. After this he also completed his attempt of 119 kg. Everyone’s eyes were on his third attempt. This time he created a new Commonwealth Games snatch record by lifting 121 kg. This was also the personal best performance of his career. However, after some time, Malaysia’s Mohammad Anik Kasdan also lifted 121 kg weight, due to which both the players were on par after the snatch round.
Got lead in Clean and Jerk, but lost gold in last attempt
In the clean and jerk round, Rishikant Singh successfully lifted 143 kg weight. With this his total score reached 264 kg and for some time he came to the top position. After this, Kasdan lifted first 145 kg and then 149 kg and made a total score of 270 kg. This increased the pressure on the Indian player. To win gold, Rishikant had to lift 151 kg in his last attempt. He completed the clean, but could not successfully lock the jerk. With this his dream of winning gold remained unfulfilled.
On the other hand, Kasdan lifted 152 kg in his last attempt and won the gold medal with a total record score of 273 kg. Despite this, Rishikant Singh’s silver medal proved to be very important for India and he created a new history by winning the country’s first silver in the Commonwealth Games 2026.
