IPL 2026, CSK vs GT: In the 37th match of IPL 2026, the teams of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) faced each other at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. In this match, CSK, who came on home ground, had a very disappointing start. Chennai Super Kings’ innings, which came to bat first after losing the toss, fell apart in the powerplay itself. Due to which the team used the impact player rule at the very beginning of the match, which is rarely seen.

Chennai Super Kings got their first blow in the fourth over itself, when in-form Sanju Samson returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs in just 15 balls. The credit for this wicket went to Gujarat Titans fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who bowled an amazing ball. On the last ball of the same over, Rabada gave another blow to CSK by dismissing Urvil Patel. After falling two wickets for 25 runs in just four overs, CSK management took a unique and shocking step. In the initial stages of the match, he used the impact player and included Sarfaraz Khan in the team in place of Urvil Patel.
However, this strategy also did not work. In the very next over, Sarfaraz Khan was out without scoring any runs on the ball of Mohammad Siraj. In this way, CSK lost its first three wickets in just 8 balls, which proved to be a big blow for the team. This failure of the batsmen in the initial overs seemed to weigh heavily on Chennai’s innings.
CSK did this for the second time in the season
Interestingly, this is the second time in this season that CSK has used an impact player so early. Earlier, Sarfaraz Khan was fielded as an impact player in place of Ayush Mhatre against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Even then the team had taken the help of the impact player in the fourth over itself. However, Chennai Super Kings had to face defeat in that match.
