Which gods should we worship?
On this day, there is a special tradition of worshiping Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi and Moon God. According to religious belief, worshiping Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi increases wealth and prosperity. Worship of Moon God provides mental peace and balance.
How to do puja?
On this day, first thing in the morning, remember God and take bath with water mixed with Ganga water. Chanting mantras like Om Namo Narayana while bathing purifies the mind as well as the body. After this, it is considered auspicious to wear clean and light colored clothes, especially yellow or white. After bathing, the resolution to fast is taken while sitting at the place of worship. Then light a ghee lamp in front of the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. During the puja, offer yellow flowers, basil leaves, fruits and sweets to the Lord. Tulsi has special importance, hence it must be offered.
If you have a conch shell then offering water from it is considered even more auspicious. This fast ends with offering Arghya to the Moon in the evening. When the moon rises, stand at a clean place, pour water, some milk, rice and flowers in a copper pot and offer it to the Moon God. While offering Arghya, remember your wishes and pray for happiness, prosperity and peace. After this, break the fast and eat fruits or satvik food.
Special importance of bathing and donating
There is a tradition of bathing in holy rivers on Vaishakh Purnima. It is believed that by taking bath in Ganga or any holy lake on this day, the sins of many births are washed away.
Vishnu-Lakshmi worship: Joint worship of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi on this day removes financial difficulties and brings happiness and prosperity in the house.
