New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have surpassed Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to become the most prolific Indian opening pair in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gill and Sudharsan achieved the feat during GT’s 8-wicket victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2026 on Sunday, April 26.
One of the most consistent opening pairs in the IPL over the last few years, Gill and Sudharsan have been the backbone of the Gujarat Titans’ batting line-up. The duo have shared the majority of the run-scoring responsibilities for the 2022 champions ever since joining hands in the 2024 season and continue to do so in the ongoing IPL 2026.
Sudharsan and Gill shared a 58-run opening stand against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday to go past Rohit and Kishan as the most prolific Indian openers in the IPL. Kishan and Rohit notched up 1547 runs in 43 innings together while opening for the Mumbai Indians from 2021 to 2024 season.
The pair averaged 35.97 and shared 14 fifty-plus opening stands between them. Their partnership was broken after Kishan was released by MI and joined his current team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the IPL. Gill and Sudharsan have gone past Rohit and Kishan in the elite list of opening pairs with the most runs in the IPL.
The GT openers have already scored 1584 runs together in just 25 innings in the league, averaging an impressive 65. They have shared five 100-plus stands and eight fifty-plus partnerships for GT so far, with the highest opening stand of 210 runs.
While they are now the most prolific Indian opening pair in the IPL, Sudharsan and Gill are third on the overall list of most prolific opening pairs in the league. The elite list is led by former SRH openers Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner, who scored an impressive 2220 runs together while opening for the Orange Army.
