Chunnari Chunnari Is Homage, Not Remake: Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Song Composers – EXCL

The latest tune of the month is Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s song, – Let’s Go. Picturised on Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, the track evoked nostalgia as Hindi cinema fans were instantly reminded of Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen’s iconic chartbuster of the same title from Biwi No 1 . David Dhawan is the common thread that connects both films.

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Chunnari Chunnari – Let’s Go’s music composers, Akshay and IP, clarified that the song isn’t a remake but a homage to the original track.

Chunnari Chunnari music composers call it homage and not remake

Talking to Zoom exclusively, Akshay said, “We have our own term for this, which is reimagination. It is actually paying homage to the original. This is not a remake, as that requires different treatment. This version has original lyrics, and sampling was done; the lyrics were rewritten. Instead of calling it a remake or recreation, it is more of a homage.”

IP, who has also written the additional lyrics while being the singer too, shared that Chunnari Chunnari – Let’s Go is an attempt to introduce the younger generation to iconic songs of the 90s. “Jab yeh gaane humne sune the while we were growing old. These songs held certain feelings and emotions. We intended to preserve the feeling of the old song. But now we get modern sounds and amenities. We get to expose the newer generation to these iconic old tunes,” he said.

Chunnari Chunnari song controversy

While Akshay and IP call Chunnari Chunnari’s version fromĀ  a ‘homage’, a major copyright battle ensued between the film’s production house Tips and Pooja Entertainment. The former, led by Ramesh Taurani, claimed that it is the ‘absolute and lawful owner of the relevant copyrights and associated rights in the said works’.

A statement read, “Tips clarifies that it has taken all necessary and appropriate steps in accordance with law, including obtaining relief from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide its order dated 22 May 2026. Tips remains committed to protecting its rights and is actively pursuing all appropriate legal remedies in consultation with its legal advisors and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”

and Anuradha Sriram were the lead singers of the original track. The new version retains Anuradha’s voice along with additional singers including IP, Jonita Gandhi, Asees Kaur, and Sudhir Yaduvanshi.
