AICC General Secretary Bhupesh Baghel said that the decision regarding the yatra or rallies will be taken soon. Time has been sought from the party high command. The party has expressed confidence of returning to Punjab.
Congress leader and AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said the party will launch a big election campaign for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, while Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly and Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said the dates of the campaign will be announced soon.
Bajwa told reporters, “…the campaign (in view of the Punjab Assembly elections) will be launched soon. The dates and venues will be announced soon…Congress will come back to power in Punjab.”
Brainstorming on campaign strategy
Baghel said on Wednesday that meetings would be held regularly in view of the elections. “Today, after the formation of the committee, the first meeting was held… It has been decided that now we have to start the election campaign (for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections). For this, we will seek time from the high command, especially Rahul ji, Kharge saheb and Priyanka ji. Depending on when they are available, we will start a big election campaign. We have both the options in front of us. Either the yatra can happen or the public meetings. We discussed whether public meetings should be launched along with the yatra or before. Rallies should be held and the yatra should be started today, and we will meet again in the coming days.
Claim of unity in the party
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa told reporters that the Congress is “united” and will form the government in Punjab.
Earlier in the month, amid differences in the Punjab Congress, Bhupesh Baghel had submitted his report to the party’s general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal. According to sources, the report has suggested retaining Amarinder Singh Raja Vading as the state president, adding that 25 out of 29 district presidents and four out of seven MPs of Punjab support him.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal have also stepped up their preparations for the Punjab Assembly elections. AAP had won the 2022 elections with an overwhelming majority and formed its first government in the border state, ousting the Congress from power. (ANI)
