New Delhi [भारत]July 23 (ANI): CPI(M) leader John Brittas has condemned the police action on protesters in the national capital on Monday during the Parliament march against the paper leak and other education sector issues and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
He said that the government promotes India as the “mother of democracy”, but “they have beaten the children of this democracy.” He said, “We want action from the government. We are demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. After the incident the day before yesterday, Union Minister Amit Shah should also resign. This was a brutal attack on the children of this country. Whenever the Prime Minister goes abroad, he says that India is the mother of democracy. But he has beaten the children of this democracy itself.”
Met Sonam Wangchuk in the hospital
Brittas also said that he and other MPs met activist Sonam Wangchuk in the hospital and urged her to end her fast. “We met Sonam Wangchuk in the hospital. We handed over a memorandum signed by 20 MPs, requesting her to break her fast. Her life is precious to us, and we want her to live long so that she can continue to lead many important battles.”
Government is not talking to students: Vrinda Karat
CPI(M) leader Vrinda Karat also criticized the government’s handling of the Cockroach Janata Party protests and alleged that it was not having proper dialogue with the students. Karat said, “The government is not having proper talks with the students. They are the future of this country. This is arrogance of the government.”
Delhi Police registered 10 FIRs
Delhi Police has registered 10 FIRs in connection with the violence during protests in the national capital on Monday. Officials said four FIRs were lodged at the Parliament Street police station, while three were lodged at the Connaught Place police station. One FIR each has been lodged at Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road and Dutta Path police stations respectively.
Police said these FIRs relate to various incidents and matters related to maintaining public order during the period of protests. All reported cases are currently under investigation to determine further action. (ANI)
