BCCI calls IPL stakeholders for review meeting ahead of league’s 20th season

New Delhi: has called a special review meeting with all  stakeholders on October 15. The meeting comes after the Indian board decided at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to organise the next edition of the IPL on a grand scale.

“We have invited all the stakeholders of the IPL, including franchise owners, broadcasters and hosting state associations. It is a follow-up to our earlier decision to conduct the next season of the IPL, which will be the 20th edition, on a grand scale,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz.

According to a Cricbuzz report, representatives from 13 state associations that normally host IPL games and broadcaster JioStar have been invited to the meeting. The venue for the meeting is yet to be finalised, but is likely to be held outside the BCCI headquarters, considering the expected turnout.

“We have not yet finalised the venue. We have just shortlisted a few options. We will take a final call soon,” the BCCI secretary added. As per the report, the meeting will be held at Taj Santacruz at 6 PM (IST) on October 15.

‘The meeting is intended to review the issues and learnings from the past seasons’

Saikia, in his letter to the state associations, wrote that the BCCI intends to review the issues and learnings from previous IPL seasons and address any concerns during the meeting in Mumbai.

“As the league approaches its landmark 20th season in 2027, the BCCI proposes to convene a joint meeting of all key stakeholders, namely the State associations that hosted IPL matches, the Franchise owners and their Chief Executive Officers and the Broadcasters,” Saikia wrote in his letter to the state associations, which is in possession of Cricbuzz.

“The State Associations play a central role in the successful staging of the League and your perspective on matters of hosting, venue operations, and match-day coordination will be of great value to these deliberations. We look forward to your presence and valuable inputs and to working together toward making the 20th season of the IPL a truly memorable one,” he added.

Apart from this, the BCCI is also expected to take a call on the Impact Player rule, which has faced immense criticism from players and fans. A call on the rule is expected to be taken before the retention deadline, which is usually towards the end of November. The IPL 2027 mini-auction will be held in Goa in December.
