Guwahati (Assam) [भारत]July 28 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for personally monitoring the flood situation in the state. At the same time, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said that it has rescued 458 stranded people and delivered more than nine tonnes of relief material in the flood-affected areas of Assam and Nagaland in the last 10 days.
CM expressed gratitude to PM Modi
In a post on Twitter, Sarma expressed his gratitude towards PM Modi and thanked him for regularly taking stock of the ground situation. He assured that the state government is working on a “war footing” to provide relief to the affected residents. Sarma said, “Respected Prime Minister, thank you for your personal attention to this matter and for taking ground information regarding #AssamFloods. Under your leadership, we are working on a war footing to provide relief to our people, and so far we have managed to reach every affected village.”
The Chief Minister said that power supply has been restored in most of the flood affected areas. “Power has also been restored in most of the flood-affected areas and all the rescued people have been placed in relief camps with proper food, medical facilities and children’s play space,” he said.
He further said, “We will continue to work 24*7 to ensure a rapid response in this hour and will thereafter present a comprehensive rehabilitation roadmap to assist our people, based on the principles of public participation. I once again express my gratitude to respected @narendramodi ji for closely monitoring the situation and providing us all assistance.”
Air Force rescue and relief operations continue
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force said it is playing a vital role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations despite the challenging weather conditions. “The Indian Air Force continues to demonstrate its rapid response in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in the flood affected areas of Assam and Nagaland. In the last 10 days, IAF helicopters have rescued and evacuated 458 stranded civilians and delivered over 9 tonnes of essential relief material,” the Air Force said in a post on Twitter. The force said the operation is being conducted in close coordination with the Indian Army and civil authorities.
This development comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he has discussed the current flood situation with Assam MPs and assured that the Center is working closely with the state government to assist the affected people.
More than 4.45 lakh people affected by flood
According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 4.45 lakh people in six districts are affected by the floods. 631 villages in the state are submerged, while around 28,700 people have taken shelter in 184 relief camps and distribution centres. (ANI)
