A 60-year-old father shot dead his 40-year-old son over a dispute over his second marriage in Ludhiana. Later the father also committed suicide by consuming poison. The son was strongly against his father’s remarriage.
Ludhiana: In Ludhiana, Punjab, a father shot his own son after running him on the road and then went home and committed suicide by consuming poison. The 60 year old father wanted to marry again, but his 40 year old son was strongly against it. The fight over this matter ended two lives.
This incident happened late on Sunday night in New Agar Nagar, Ludhiana. According to the police, 60-year-old retired soldier Surinder Singh shot and killed his 40-year-old son Gursharan Singh. After this he himself committed suicide. The reason for this bloody game was Surinder Singh’s insistence on marrying for the second time.
Surinder Singh’s wife had died about five years ago. After this he wanted to marry again. He told this to his son Gursharan, who was still unmarried. But Gursharan was not ready for this marriage. Neighbors say that for the last three years there used to be frequent fights between father and son over this issue. Surinder Singh also has two daughters, who live abroad. Only these two lived at home.
On Sunday night, during dinner, the two started arguing once again on the same issue. The matter escalated to such an extent that Surinder Singh, in anger, picked up his licensed double barrel gun and shot at his son. When the bullet misfired for the first time, Gursharan ran towards the street to save his life. But Surinder Singh did not leave him and shot him on the road itself. Gursharan died on the spot due to bullet injury.
After killing his son, Surinder Singh came back home, locked the door from inside and consumed poison. When the neighbors came out after hearing the sound of the bullet, they saw Gursharan lying in a pool of blood. People immediately informed the police. When the police broke the door of the house, Surinder Singh was lying unconscious inside. Both were taken to the hospital, but neither could be saved.
Police suspect that both father and son were drunk at the time of the incident. A gun and a poison bottle have been recovered from the spot. Sarabha Nagar Police said that the daughters living abroad have been informed about this incident. The bodies will be handed over to the family after postmortem.
