Big Cricket League Season 2: The second season of the Big Cricket League (BCL) started with a bang on June 3 at the famous Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida. The entire stadium was packed with a huge crowd of fans. Colorful flags waving all around, dazzling lights, beautiful stage were telling that this event is no less than a big festival. The beats of drums, captivating cultural presentations and powerful fireworks echoing in the sky enthralled the audience. Every person present there was experiencing the thrill of Indian Premier League (IPL) after seeing this atmosphere.
Small players got the sky of dreams
The biggest and beautiful feature of this league is that it is not limited to only established and big stars. ‘Big Cricket League’ has opened its doors for those common cricket lovers, who were sweating in the streets and local grounds for years, but who could never get a big platform. This league has emerged as an excellent medium to identify the hidden talents of small towns of the country and give new wings to their dreams.
Army of veterans took to the field
The teams of UP Bridge Stars and Mumbai Marines took the field for the inaugural match of this season. The attraction of this match increased further when the legendary players of international cricket like Shikhar Dhawan, S. Sreesanth and Ross Taylor were seen. Seeing these star players so close to them, the happiness of the fans knew no bounds and the atmosphere of the entire stadium became very exciting. This opening match of the tournament was formally inaugurated by Thakur Raghuraj Singh, Minister of State for Labor and Employment and Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh. He went to the field and met all the players and encouraged them.
Talking to TV9 on this occasion, he said, ‘The government is making every possible effort to advance the youth. Big Cricket League is not just a cricket tournament, but it is creating a complete ecosystem. With this, the youth are getting new employment opportunities along with sports.
Close contest in the very first match
The first match of Season 2 was played between last season’s winner Mumbai Marines and home team UP Bridge Stars. Mumbai Marines became the boss of the toss and chose to bat first and scored a strong score of 171 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, UP Bridge Stars, captained by ‘Gabbar’ i.e. Shikhar Dhawan, showed a very composed and aggressive game. The match dragged on till the last overs, due to which the fans held their breath. Ultimately, UP Bridge Stars won this exciting match by scoring 172 runs with a few balls remaining.
