These are not ordinary accidents, but are the result of deliberate human negligence. The government said that a total of 6,358 such dangerous stretches have been identified on national highways across the country, which have been named “Black Corridors” in technical language. The total length of these bloody corridors is approximately 6,409.7 kilometers. The surprising thing is that to detect these danger zones, the government took the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based tools and real-time data of Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) platform. These are the parts where accidents involving deaths and serious injuries are being recorded continuously, yet the travelers passing through here are completely unaware of this horrifying truth.

Biggest threat in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh: Know which states are on top?
As soon as the layers of government data were opened, a very scary truth came to light. Tamil Nadu has the highest number of death toll corridors in the country, where their number is 958. In this bloody list, Uttar Pradesh is at second position with 671 black corridors, while Karnataka is at third position with 607 stretches. Apart from this, states like Maharashtra (477), Kerala (386) and Andhra Pradesh (384) are also included in this dreadful list. If we talk district wise, Villupuram is the most sensitive area of Tamil Nadu with 70 black corridors. This is followed by Pune Rural (60), Trichy (56), East Medinipur (52), Cuddalore (49) and Palakkad (48). The shadow of death is looming on the roads of these areas every moment.
Huge claims of government schemes: Will passengers really be safe?
When the government’s response to this disaster was sought in Parliament, the ministry presented a long list of its plans to prevent accidents. According to the government, to immediately increase safety on these corridors, special markings, warning boards, crash barriers, road studs and delineators are being installed on the roads. Besides, the median cutting on the highway which was opened without permission is being closed so that the speed of vehicles can be controlled. Long-term improvements include fixing road junctions, widening roads and building overpasses or underpasses. Apart from this, road safety audit has been made mandatory at every stage of the National Highway and special officers have been deployed to oversee it.

The most surprising and mysterious part of this entire report is that the government did not answer. The Union Ministry placed before the Rajya Sabha a long list of its plans, shortcomings and technical measures, but when the important question was asked that how many of these 6,358 bloody black corridors have been completely repaired or secured so far, the government maintained complete silence on it. The government says that these works may take time due to reasons like land acquisition, forest department approval and removal of electric poles or pipelines.
