IPL 2026 started from 28 March. Since then the teams must have covered lakhs of kilometers by air and road. Considering the way the teams are scheduled and their matches are held in different cities, this travel is also justified. But now the situation has changed a bit due to the impact of the US-Iran war and in such a situation, air travel during IPL can put additional pressure on the Indian government. In view of the same problem, Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of Chamber of Trade and Industry i.e. CTI, the top organization of businessmen and entrepreneurs in Delhi and the country, has written a letter to Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and demanded that a new schedule should be issued for the remaining matches of IPL by cutting air travel.
Demand to hold remaining IPL matches on limited grounds without spectators
Brijesh Goyal demanded from the Sports Minister that the matches should be held on limited grounds without spectators. He said that even during the Corona period, the organizers had successfully organized the IPL on a limited number of grounds. He said that on an average around 50,000 spectators come to a match due to which thousands of liters of petrol and diesel are spent. In such a situation, IPL can be saved by holding it without spectators.
How much fuel is being lost in the air travel of IPL teams?
According to CTI, chartered aircraft such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 commonly used by IPL teams consume around 2400 to 3000 liters of fuel per hour on an average. According to this, if the flight flies for about 2 hours then the estimated consumption is around 5000 to 6000 liters of aviation fuel ATF. He said that if the aircraft is a little bigger or is flying with more weight for longer distances, then this figure can go up to 7000 to 8000 litres. Now, if this fuel expenditure is multiplied by about 10 air journeys of the teams, then it can be said that each team is spending about 50,000 to 70,000 liters of aviation fuel.
Demand made to save petrol and diesel
While every government department, politician, officer, common citizen is trying to avoid wasteful expenditure on the advice of Prime Minister Modi, in these difficult times, IPL is the only event which seems to be untouched by any crisis at the moment. CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal said that the need of the hour is to reschedule the remaining IPL matches and organize them on limited grounds without spectators, which will save lakhs of liters of fuel, petrol and diesel and will also reduce the burden on the country.
