Acid attack survivor and activist Lakshmi Aggarwal shared a picture, after which a debate has erupted on social media. Many people believe that this photo was created by AI. In the picture, Lakshmi is sitting in a setup like a government office, behind which is the ‘Delhi Government’ sign, the tricolor and the Ashoka Pillar.
Acid attack survivor and activist Lakshmi Aggarwal has come into the center of debate regarding one of her social media posts. He has shared a picture, seeing which most of the users believe that it has been created with Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this photo, Lakshmi is seen sitting in a place like a government office. Behind them are the ‘Delhi Government’ board, India’s national symbol Ashoka Pillar and two tricolor flags. A plate with her name is kept on the table and she is seen signing some paper.
This post went viral in no time, but the reason was something else. While many people congratulated him and assumed that he had got a government post, on the other hand many people raised the question whether this picture was made by AI and if yes, then why was it not told clearly.
Lakshmi wrote the caption in Hindi with the photo:
‘I am the voice that was once tried to be suppressed… now that same voice will write the change. 🇮🇳’
He further wrote:
‘Those who consider us weak will now have to remember my name – Laxmi Agarwal.’
This emotional message was praised by many followers, but the government office-like background gave rise to both confusion and criticism among the people.
Many users thought the picture was real
Soon after the photo was shared, many users started leaving congratulatory comments. Seeing the office-like atmosphere, Delhi government sign, flag and national emblem, some people assumed that Lakshmi had got some government post.
The posts read ‘Congratulations’, ‘Proud of you’, ‘Which post did you get?’ and ‘Is this true?’ Like there was a flood of comments.
“I thought this was real. You’re already a public figure and you don’t need to do this,” one user wrote.

Another commented, “Congratulations dear didu,” while many others praised her journey and called the moment inspirational.
However, later many social media users said that this picture seems to be made by AI. Many people started asking why the post did not mention that the photo might not be real.
“Please share only real photos, not AI ones,” one person wrote.
Another commented, “Why are you sharing AI generated pictures?”
Another user said, “You are already an inspiration to us. Please don’t share such AI generated pictures.”
Debate over use of government symbols and legislation
The biggest discussion below the post started when a user claimed that if the photo was created by AI and there was no explanation given, it could raise “legal issues”.
That comment sparked a long debate among users, including people calling themselves lawyers.
One user argued that the picture could mislead people as it shows national emblems, flags and an office setup similar to that of the Delhi government. The person also mentioned the possibility of action under The State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005.
The user wrote that there should be an explanation on government-looking pictures created by AI because people may consider it to be a real government appointment.
In response, another user said that Lakshmi has not claimed any official position in the post. He argued that there is no government designation written on his nameplate and the viewers should understand that the photo was created by AI.
This legal debate continued over several comments, with users disagreeing on whether the post fell within the scope of “misrepresentation” or was merely symbolic creative expression.
One commenter directly asked, “Which designation? Is there any designation written?”
“She is not claiming to be any authority or hold any position,” another wrote.
Meanwhile, some users criticized the growing trend of AI-generated images on social media and said that creators should clearly disclose such content so that there is no confusion.
One user commented, “Misuse of AI… Everyone has to stay within limits.”
Another wrote, “Who puts AI GENERATED image, man, that’s also like this.”
No official announcement regarding any government role
As the online debate grew, many users kept asking whether Lakshmi Aggarwal had officially joined any government department or held any public position.
At present, there has been no official announcement regarding any such appointment.
This viral picture seems symbolic, which was shared with an inspirational caption about strength, voice and change. However, because the setting seemed official, many people mistakenly believed it to be a real government photo.
The discussion once again highlights how AI-generated images can blur the line between reality and fiction on social media, especially when they involve government symbols, offices or public figures.
Despite this criticism, many users continued to support Lakshmi Agarwal and praised her courage, activism and journey as an acid attack survivor, who has inspired millions of people across the country.
