What does a password do?
Password is like the key to your digital account. Just like the lock of the house protects your things, similarly the password protects your online account and the data present in it. If the password is weak, someone else can easily access your account by guessing it or through technical means.

Why is a weak password dangerous?
Even today many people keep easy passwords like 123456, password, 12345678, their name, birthday or mobile number. Hackers first notice such passwords. With the help of certain types of computer programs, cyber criminals can try millions of common passwords in a few seconds or minutes. This is called brute-force attack or dictionary attack. For example, suppose you have kept the password of your email as Rohit123. If someone knows your name, he can easily try many such passwords. But if your password is long like R#8mL!92Qx@P and contains different characters, numbers and special marks, then it becomes very difficult to break it.

Why not keep the same password everywhere?
Suppose you have kept the same password in all three places – email, banking and social media. If the data of any one website gets leaked and your password reaches the wrong hands, then other accounts can also be opened using the same password. Therefore, separate passwords should be kept for some special accounts.
