causes of gas in stomach
Gas formation in the stomach is a normal body process. Almost every human being produces some gas in the stomach and intestines. This gas comes out of the body through belching or flatus. But when gas starts getting produced excessively or is not able to come out, then problems like flatulence, pain, heaviness and restlessness arise. According to doctors, gas is formed in the stomach due to two reasons. First- Air getting into the stomach while eating food. Second- Lack of proper digestion of food in the intestines.

How does air get into the stomach while eating?
When we eat food too fast, swallow without chewing, drink liquid-juice with the help of a straw, chew gum or talk too much while eating, then some air goes inside the stomach. This air later comes out in the form of belching. If too much air enters the stomach, the stomach appears bloated.
Which foods produce the most gas?
Let us tell you, every food item is not the same. Some things create more gas in the intestines. As-
- kidney beans
- Chickpeas
- Chickpea
- Lentils and other pulses
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Onion
- carbonated (soft) drinks
These things contain carbohydrates and fibers which cannot be completely digested in the small intestine. Later, the good bacteria present in the large intestine break them down. In this process, gases like hydrogen, carbon dioxide and in some people methane are formed.

Can milk also produce gas?
Yes. Some people have less enzyme called lactase in their body. This is called lactose intolerance. Such people may face problems like gas, flatulence and diarrhea after consuming milk or milk products.
Constipation can also increase problems
If our stomach is not cleaned properly for several days, the stool remains stuck in the intestines for a long time. This gives the bacteria more time to digest the food and more gas starts forming. Therefore, proper treatment of constipation should be done.
