Lord’s Cricket Ground: Lord’s, which is called the Mecca of cricket, is going to witness a historic match. This historic match is a test match between the women’s teams of India and England, which is starting from July 10. This is the first time in the 142-year history of Lord’s Cricket Ground that it will be seen hosting a women’s test match. This is a matter of competition. But, are you aware of Lord’s Cricket Ground? Who sold this land and that too at what price? Let’s take a look at all the interesting information related to Lord’s ground.

Who sold out Lord’s?

Lord’s is one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world, which is owned by Marylebone Cricket Club i.e. MCC. The creator of Lord’s Cricket Ground was Thomas Lord and this ground was also named after him. In the 1820s, Thomas Lord himself sold Lord’s Cricket Ground to William Ward.

For how much was Lord’s sold?

Now, there is no official information about how much money Thomas Lord spent on building Lord’s Cricket Ground in 1814. But, in 1820 he sold it to William Ward for 5400 pounds. Meaning in today’s Indian rupees it is approximately Rs 6.92 lakh.

Lord’s Cricket Ground was later expanded and rebuilt several times, with a significant amount of money being spent. In 1890, 21,000 pounds were spent on the construction of its pavilion. At the same time, approximately £ 52 million was spent on the Compton and Andrich stands built between 2019 and 2021.

The current Lord’s Stadium is the third of three grounds built by Thomas Lord between 1787 and 1814. The first ground is called Lord’s Old Ground. The other ground is called Lord’s Middle Ground, which was used from 1811 to 1813. It had to be abandoned because Regent’s Canal was to be constructed from its outfield.

When was the first match played at Lord’s?

The first match played at Lord’s Cricket Ground was in July 1884, which was a test match played between the men’s team of Australia and England. Now the first women’s test is going to be held on this ground, which is between India and England.
