Know who is Prabal Pratap, what is the whole controversy and why questions are being raised on the security arrangements of the court.
An unprecedented incident that took place during a hearing in the Supreme Court, the country’s largest court, has sparked a new debate regarding the dignity of the judiciary and the security arrangements of the courts. A man who arrived at the court wearing a black coat not only tried to give instructions to the judges, but also allegedly made objectionable remarks towards the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and threw the documents he had brought with him into the court. After the incident, the security personnel immediately threw him out of the court room. The matter has now become a topic of discussion at both legal and social levels.
What happened during the hearing?
The incident took place before Justice K.V. During the hearing before the bench of Justice Vishwanathan and Justice Alok. The man wearing a black coat addressed the court and sought directions to immediately register an FIR against the Vikasnagar ACP of Lucknow. When the bench asked whether he was giving orders to the court, he said that everything else was written in its documents.
After this, he threw around 185 pages of documents in the court room and allegedly used abusive language against the CJI while raising questions on the judicial system. The court proceedings were affected for some time, after which the security personnel took him out and brought the situation to normal.
Who is Prabal Pratap and what is the reason for the controversy?
The person creating ruckus has been identified as Prabal Pratap Yadav, resident of Bharthana, Etawah. He was earlier working as a software engineer in a private company in Lucknow. According to reports, he was accused of sending objectionable emails and making indecent comments to one of his female colleagues.
After the complaint, the company first warned him and later removed him from the job. After this, Prabal Pratap tried to lodge an FIR making serious allegations against the company. The matter first reached the CGM Court of Lucknow and then the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, but did not get any relief. Ultimately he approached the Supreme Court, where the entire incident came to light during the hearing.
Questions raised on court’s reaction and security
Immediately after the incident, security personnel detained Prabal Pratap and took him out of the court room. The court expressed displeasure at his behavior, but took no immediate punitive action. As per the available information, the court also mentioned his mental condition. This is not the first time that such an incident has happened in the Supreme Court. Even before this, cases of breach of discipline and indecent behavior towards judges have come to light during court proceedings.
After the recent incident, the biggest question arising is that despite the supreme security arrangements of the court, how could a person create such a ruckus in the court room. Also, this case is giving rise to serious discussion on the dignity of the judiciary, security of courts and maintenance of discipline in court premises.
