Rain spoiled the game on the last day
The host West Indies had taken a 1-0 lead by achieving a big victory in the very first match of this series. But Sri Lanka made a strong comeback in the second match in North Sound, Antigua. However, this entire match was no less than a gift for the batsmen, where 3 centuries were scored while 5 batsmen scored between 70 to 90 runs. Despite this, the match remained exciting till the last day and if it had not rained, the result could have been anything.
Sri Lanka declared its first innings with a score of 549/9. In response, West Indies could reach only 499 runs in the first innings and Sri Lanka got a lead of 50 runs. Then on the fifth day, Sri Lanka declared its second innings at 251 runs and gave the West Indies a target of 302 runs. But it rained several times during West Indies’ innings, due to which a lot of time was wasted in the last day’s play. Ultimately West Indies had scored 109 runs in 40 overs without losing any wicket and the match ended in a draw.

In this way, West Indies won the series 1-0 and defeated Sri Lanka in the Test series after 23 years. Not only this, in the current World Test Championship cycle also, West Indies opened their winning account with this series. At present, West Indies has a total of 20 points in 10 Test matches after only 1 win, 2 draws and 7 losses, while its point percentage is 16.67. Sri Lanka also has 20 points but its point percentage has come down to 41.67. While West Indies is at 9th position among 10 teams, Sri Lanka remains at sixth position.
