take a walk while eating
Dr. Rohit Sharma says that it is not considered right to do heavy exercise or fast running immediately after eating food, but taking a light walk can be beneficial for health. Experts said that fast walking, jogging or doing heavy workout in the gym immediately after meals can cause acidity, stomach pain or discomfort in some people, because at that time more blood flow in the body is towards the digestion process. Therefore, walking at a normal pace after meals is considered the best option.
How long should you walk?
Usually a light walk of 10 to 20 minutes is sufficient. If a person has any serious stomach related problem, heart disease or other health problem, then he should consult a doctor according to his condition. Overall, a light walk after meals is a good habit, which improves digestion and can also prove beneficial for overall health.
Benefits of walking after eating
According to him, a comfortable walk of 10-15 minutes after meals helps in improving digestion, which can reduce problems like gas, bloating and feeling of heaviness in the stomach. Apart from this, light physical activity after eating also helps in controlling the blood sugar level in the body, especially for those who have diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Keep these things in mind
- After eating food, one should not do workout, running or high intensity exercise in the gym even by mistake. Activities like lifting heavy weights can have a negative impact on stomach health. Experts say that for this it is best to keep a gap of 1.5 to 2 hours.
- If you are going for a walk, avoid tight clothes or uncomfortable footwear as it puts extra pressure on the body. One should walk wearing comfortable clothes and properly fitting shoes.
- If you go for a walk after eating food, drink some water during this time. Drinking too much water can cause feeling of heaviness in the stomach.
