New law will replace MNREGA, guarantee of 125 days work
This new law is set to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), 2005, with an improved framework guaranteeing 125 days of wage employment in rural areas. The Develop India-Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Act was passed in the winter session of Parliament 2025 and it replaces the 100-day employment guarantee with a 125-day guarantee. However, the opposition has criticized the law for removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme and changing the 60:40 sharing of funds between the Center and states. (ANI)
