Vijay Varma Reacts To Being Called ‘Red Flag’, Takes Jibe At Dolly Singh’s ‘Terrible Compliments’

Vijay Varma attended the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026 in Australia. The actor received the Best Performance award for Matka King. Known for being the favourite on-screen antagonist of the current generation of actors, Vijay was called a ‘red flag’ by Dolly Singh, who was the anchor, on stage. Showing off his witty side, Varma responded to her comment with a playful dig. The video from the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026 went viral on social media. Vijay’s fans appreciated his reply to Dolly’s ‘red flag’ remark.

Why did Vijay Varma take a dig at Dolly Singh?

At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026, Dolly jokingly called  the walking-talking ‘red flag’ on-screen. She was quick to add that though Varma plays grey characters on screen, he is the nicest person. The actor responded by saying one must buy a red cloth, keep it at home and make as many flags as needed. Dolly said it was a ‘lame joke’. Vijay then joked about letting her ‘terrible compliments slide’.

Vijay Varma wins big at IFFM 2026

Before the banter with Dolly, Vijay received the award and said at the ceremony, “I’m just lucky to get this part and to get to work with this incredible giant of a director called Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, who’s made films like Sairat and Fandry and such profound work. I got this opportunity, I took it with both my hands, and I poured all of myself into it. I did everything I could.”

Ending his speech, the actor said, “I’m glad I did it.” He added, “I’m glad I did it and to actually end it with saying that I want to quote one of my favourite profound philosophers of modern times, Snoop Dogg. He said, ‘I want to thank myself. I want to thank me for believing in me when nobody did and for putting up good work, going to work every day, no off days and for believing in myself and dreaming big’. So, thank you so much.”
