West Indies vs Sri Lanka, 1st ODI: Sri Lanka’s West Indies tour has started. The first match of the ODI series was played between the two teams on 3 June. In the match played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, Sri Lanka defeated host West Indies by 41 runs. Nissanka and Mendis’ tremendous batting in the first ODI
Sri Lanka batted first in the first ODI against West Indies. The host team won the toss and invited them to bat first. Even though Sri Lanka’s first wicket fell for 22 runs. But after that, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis displayed excellent batting and put Sri Lanka in a good position.
Half century of Nissanka-Mendis, Sri Lanka scored 303 runs
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis made a partnership of 136 runs for the second wicket. This partnership was broken due to the dismissal of Kusal Mendis, who scored 72 runs in 62 balls. Sri Lankan bowlers kept West Indies away from the target
West Indies got the target of scoring 304 runs in 50 overs. But after batting, Sri Lanka wreaked such havoc in bowling that it became difficult for West Indies to hit the target. The most successful batsman from West Indies was its captain Shay Hope, who scored 56 runs. Apart from him, no other batsman could score a half-century. Chasing the total of 304 runs, the West Indies team could not even play 50 overs and were all out after scoring 262 runs in 49.2 overs.
Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera alone dismissed 4 batsmen. He took 4 wickets for 67 runs in 10 overs. Mahish Teekshana took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs. The second ODI between Sri Lanka and West Indies will now be played on June 7.
