Story of Vat Purnima Vrat (Vat Purnima Vrat Katha)
According to the story of Vat Purnima fast, Savitri got married to Satyavan. Savitri was the daughter of King Ashwapati and Satyavan was the son of King Dyumtsena. King Ashwapati had already told Narad ji that Satyavan is a very good and religious person, but his age is very short and he will die only after one year of marriage. Savitri had to explain a lot to King Ashwapati before marriage, but she stuck to her decision.
After marriage, Savitri left the palace with her husband and started living in the forest. When Savitri realized that the time of her husband’s death was approaching, she started fasting. One day, on the day of his death, Satyavan started going to the forest to collect wood. Savitri said that she would go with him. While climbing a tree in the forest, Satyavan suddenly started having severe headache. On this he came down and lay down with his head in Savitri’s lap.
At the same time, Yamraj came and started taking away Satyavan’s life, and Savitri also followed him. Yamraj tried to stop him, but seeing his loyalty and devotion to his husband, Lord Yam was pleased and asked for a boon. Savitri asked for the life of her husband Satyavan as a boon. Yamraj was forced to give back Satyavan’s life because of the boon he had given. After this, Savitri came back to the same banyan tree where Satyavan’s body was lying and Satyavan came alive.
