Rawat missing from Venugopal’s meeting, political stir intensifies

Venugopal held a series of organizational meetings in Dehradun on Thursday, while former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat did not attend any session. Speaking to ANI over phone, Harish Rawat’s office said that the former chief minister is currently out of Dehradun for naturopathy treatment. The office also said that Rawat had met AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal had already been informed about his inability to attend the meetings.
Brainstorming on strengthening the organization and election strategy
Meanwhile, Venugopal began his two-day tour of Uttarakhand on Thursday and held a series of meetings with Congress leaders throughout the day as part of the party’s organizational exercise. KC Venugopal held a detailed review meeting, in which emphasis was laid on strategies to further strengthen the party at the booth level and effectively raise issues related to public welfare.
Meanwhile, before the meeting, senior leaders of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee K.C. Venugopal and presented him a sacred icon of the revered Char Dham, a symbol of faith and cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. Upon Venugopal’s arrival, he was welcomed at the State Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters. Venugopal also garlanded the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
AICC in-charge of Uttarakhand Kumari Selja said that Venugopal held meetings with party leaders and also took feedback about the party’s preparations. “He will also give a message to everyone on behalf of the party. With elections approaching, the party needs to work hard at the grassroots level,” he said.
‘BJP does politics in the name of God’
He further said, “We will discuss local issues and the wrong policies of the BJP government. Looking at the track record of the government in this period, wherever one goes in the region, the public sentiment has turned against them. Be it Uttarakhand or UP, the BJP does politics in the name of God. Yet, thefts are happening in temples right under their noses, be it theft of gold or temple offerings. The real face of the BJP is coming in front of the public.”
Emphasis on discipline in the party
Venugopal will meet senior party leaders on July 10. Meanwhile, ahead of Venugopal’s visit, Uttarakhand Congress expelled Mahendra Lunthi, Bhavana Nagarkoti and Deepak Lunthi from the primary membership of the party for six years on charges of “anti-party activities and gross indiscipline” following indiscipline on stage during the Parivartan Sankalp Conference held in Pithoragarh on June 30. Congress is hoping to make a comeback in Uttarakhand after losing the last two assembly elections. (ANI)
