Ban removed from which Indian companies?

The four Indian companies on which the US Treasury Department has lifted the ban include RRG Engineering Technologies Pvt Ltd and Lokesh Machines Ltd of Hyderabad, Galaxy Bearings Ltd of Ahmedabad and Shaurya Aeronautics Pvt Ltd of Delhi. All these companies have now been removed from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list of the US Treasury Department.

What is SDN list?

The assets of companies and individuals included in the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list under US jurisdiction are frozen. Apart from this, strict restrictions are also imposed on their business transactions with American citizens and companies. In such a situation, being out of this list is considered a big relief for the companies concerned.

After all, why was it banned in 2024?

In the year 2024, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had imposed sanctions on 21 Indian entities under an executive order. These included 19 companies and two individuals. The US alleged that these entities were involved in violations of Russia-related sanctions or were assisting the Russian government. This action was part of the US strategy to give effect to international sanctions imposed on Moscow following the Russia-Ukraine war.

India had presented its stand earlier also

After the ban was imposed, the Indian government had clarified that there have been continuous talks with the US on this issue. The Ministry of External Affairs had reiterated that India is a responsible country following international rules and is in favor of maintaining balanced relations with all partner countries.

Why is the decision important for these companies?

Among the companies exempted from the ban are stock exchange listed companies Lokesh Machines Limited and Galaxy Bearings Limited. Lokesh Machines’ customers include global companies like John Deere, Cummins, Volvo, Honda and Suzuki. Whereas RRG Engineering Technologies works in the aviation sector of India. Experts believe that this decision is not limited to only four companies, but can also be considered an important signal towards increasing trust in India-US business relations and a possible trade deal.
