Rain water conservation promoted through ‘Khet Talab Yojana’

The main objective of ‘Khet Talab Yojana’, operated under the National Agricultural Development Scheme, is to provide permanent irrigation facility to the farmers by conserving rain water. Amidst the continuously falling groundwater level, this scheme is becoming a major means of relief for the farmers. The ponds being built in the fields store rain water, so that farmers can get sufficient water for irrigation even in the event of drought or less rainfall.

Government is giving 50 percent grant on pond construction

Under the scheme, a farm pond of size 22 m × 20 m × 3 m is created. Its total cost has been fixed at Rs 1 lakh 5 thousand. In this, the government is giving subsidy of up to Rs 52 thousand 500 to the farmers. That means the government is bearing almost half of the total cost. This has made it easier for small and marginal farmers also to avail the benefits of the scheme.

Farmers’ earnings increasing from fisheries and aquatic farming

‘Farm Pond Scheme’ is not limited to irrigation only. Through this, farmers are also getting many opportunities for additional income. Farmers can do fishing, pearl production, water chestnut farming and other aquatic activities in the pond.   • Farmers can apply online by visiting the ‘Agri Darshan’ portal of the Agriculture Department.
  • Verification will have to be completed within 15 days of booking and pond construction will have to be completed within 30 days.
