Change in billing system: Bill will be available on SMS and WhatsApp
Energy and Additional Energy Sources Minister AK Sharma said that the billing cycle will remain the same as before, as was the case in postpaid meters. Consumption bills from 1st of every month till the end of the month will be sent to consumers through SMS and WhatsApp. Consumers whose mobile number has changed can update it so that they can get the bill on time. This decision will provide relief to millions of consumers and the billing process will become more simple and transparent.
Electricity bill will be received by 10th of every month
According to the government, all smart meter consumers will receive electricity bills by the 10th of every month. After receiving the bill, 15 days will be given for payment. If a consumer does not receive the bill on time, he can get the bill by sending his consumer number on WhatsApp chatbot. Apart from this, bill can also be received by registering a complaint on 1912 portal.
Facility of 10 installments for outstanding bills
To provide relief to the consumers, the government has also decided that the outstanding bills till April 30 (before the May bills) can be deposited in 10 easy installments. If anyone has bill related problems, big camps will be organized at the block and sub-division level in May and June, where complaints related to smart meters will be resolved. Consumers can also register their complaints on 1912 portal.
Relief in depositing security amount also
Those consumers who had previously had prepaid meters installed and their security amount was returned, will no longer be charged security once the postpaid system is implemented. They will be given the facility to deposit this amount in 4 installments.
