500 wrestlers left out of U-17 wrestling championship in Gonda due to age manipulation. WFI caught fraud through Aadhaar verification. At the same time, Bengaluru will host the fourth Global Chess League from September 3.
New Delhi: 500 wrestlers were thrown out of the Under-17 National Open Wrestling Championship held from June 6 to 8 in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. The reason was age manipulation. To stop this age discrepancy, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has started verification through Aadhaar card. For this reason, it became easy to catch wrestlers who came to play by giving wrong documents.
1200 wrestlers had registered
About 1200 wrestlers had registered for this tournament. All wrestlers were required to submit their birth certificates. During the verification of documents, the wrestlers were asked for their Aadhaar card linked to their mobile number. Then asked to confirm with OTP through Aadhaar app. If any data like date of birth, address or mobile number is changed in the Aadhaar card, its record remains in the app. During the same process, documents of about 325 wrestlers in men’s freestyle, 125 in Greco-Roman and 50 in women’s freestyle were found to be fake.
WFI President Sanjay Singh said, “The birth certificate given by a wrestler showed that he was born in Delhi in 2007. But the Aadhaar records showed that he was born in Haryana in 2004.” In this way many wrestlers tried to participate in the tournament by hiding their real age. These 500 wrestlers were thrown out of the tournament due to differences in the date of birth in the birth certificate and Aadhar card.
