Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has reported receiving an extortion call demanding Rs 5 crore from an individual claiming to be Harry Boxer, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Following the complaint, the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell and Crime Branch initiated an investigation.
Police sources revealed that the Crime Branch’s technical team meticulously analyzed the audio recording of the threatening call. They compared the voice with an official audio sample of Harry Boxer available in their database. Senior Mumbai Police officials indicate that preliminary investigations suggest the call was a hoax, as the voice did not match the known audio sample. Authorities suspect that a miscreant might have invoked the Bishnoi gang’s name to instill fear and extort money from the actor.
The police are now actively working to trace the person behind the audio threat to determine if it was an isolated act or if an organized group was involved. This incident comes amidst similar reports, including eight bullion traders in Nagpur’s Sarafa Bazar who allegedly received threatening letters demanding Rs 10 lakh each, also in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In these cases, police suspect local criminals are behind the threats.
Tusshar Kapoor, son of veteran actor Jeetendra and producer Shobha Kapoor, and brother to producer Ekta Kapoor, is known for his roles in films like ‘Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai’ and the ‘Golmaal’ franchise.
