There’s been immense controversy around the release of Toxic, starring Yash, Kiara Advani and Tara Sutaria, set to hit theatres on August 26. Advani in particular, has been the recipient of severe online backlash with regards to her steamy scenes – her being a new mom had a lot to do with the disgruntlement of incels. Yesterday, the cast saw through the trailer launch of the much-contested film and Advani for one, seemed to unabashedly lean into method-dressing for her character Nadia. And corsets seem to be a hot favourite for the movie star back on the rise.
A Hint of Peplum
For the trailer launch of Toxic, Advani was the moment, dressed from head to toe in a sheer-esque pristine white. Her all-white ensemble was from Say No More, based out of Moscow. At first glance, the look was simple – a corset to cinche the waist in, trailing into a draped skirt with a daring, thigh-high slit. But the devil’s always in the details isn’t it. Anatomy-inspired couture is all the rage right now though something of the sort would look kitschy at the trailer launch for a movie made for the masses. So Advani opted for the next best thing – a subtle hint of it. The corset she has on goes heavy on the ribbing, the bands for sleeves off-the-shoulders, only adding to the impact. The key detail in this corset however, is the dual hem, almost mimicking the essence of a peplum with it’s lifted build. Not only does this give the illusion of a smaller waist, but also visually accentuates the hips whilst being nowhere close to it – this is magic with seams! The skirt is a simple and accurate pairing for the corset allowing the piece de resistance of the look to shine. A volume-heavy, glam-coded blowout and ivory-hued drop earrings completed her look.

Drop Waist Detail
If you thought the whole point of a corset was to cinch the waist, think again. Advani has a naturally small waist which means she doesn’t really use the corset to appear smaller – she’s at liberty to use it for other visual cues. Here, the Toxic star can be seen in a latex leather corset with a pronounced sweetheart neckline. The ribbing is hidden in the dark seams giving a smooth finish to the look but the single-scalloped hem of this corset mimics the flattening effect of a drop-waist hem. It’s subtle but artfully done and the nude midi layered with black lace makes the look particularly noir, not to mention the messy half-up-half-down hair. Layered necklaces and frosted fingers make for the final details.
Business Casual but Make it Chic
There came a tipping point in fashion where lingerie was no longer restricted to being hidden away under layers. Between the before and after, wearing your lingerie out, is never a bad idea. Advani here does it in business casuals nonetheless!

The main fit from this pre-pregnancy look of the star’s is a perfectly tailored pantsuit in black with a bit of a plunging V-cut on the bust. The sewn-in corset built entirely in white lace however, completely steals the show bumping up a look that was just chic, to being all-out couture-coded.
