The day did not go well for the bowlers of Team India at Lord’s Cricket Ground. In the third and last match of the ODI series against England, every Indian bowler was thrashed and England made a record score of 387 runs. But the one bowler on whom the English batsmen attacked the most was fast bowler Gurnoor Brar. This tall young bowler impressed in the last two matches but the first match at Lord’s was not good for him and Brar spent 97 runs in his 10 overs.
Right from the start
In this match played on Sunday 19th July, England decided to bat first. for England Jacob Bethel and Ben Duckett Made an explosive start. But even during this period Gurnoor bowled systematically. He did not get success but he also did not allow the English batsmen to score runs freely. The situation was such that he had given only 35 runs in his 6 overs.
But after this the English batsmen, especially Joe Root and Jos Buttler, fell on Brar’s balls. Gurnoor Brar gave away 62 runs in the next 4 overs. In this also his 8th and 10th over proved to be the most expensive. Brar spent 19 runs in the 8th over and then in the last over, Butler hit a six and 2 fours. A total of 23 runs came from this over and Brar ended his spell with 97 runs in 10 overs, where he did not get any success.
Third most expensive spell
After almost 9 years, an Indian bowler has been beaten so badly in ODI cricket. The last time an Indian bowler gave away more than 90 runs was in 2017. Then New Zealand had scored 92 runs against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Kanpur. Overall, this is the third worst spell for India in ODI cricket. The maximum score of 106 runs was also scored by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had to see this day against South Africa in 2015. Whereas in 2013, Vinay Kumar had scored 102 runs against Australia.
A strange thing about this performance of Brar is that no Indian batsman has been able to score as many runs in an innings at Lord’s as he gave in this innings. The record for India’s biggest innings in ODI at Lord’s is in the name of former captain Sourav Ganguly, who played an inning of 92 runs in 2004.
