It is mentioned in Garuda Purana that if a person dies due to snake bite or any poison, then he should not be cremated. It is believed that due to the toxic effect, microscopic life remains present in the body for about 21 days. Such a person is not considered to have completely died. Therefore, it is right to give water samadhi to such a dead body.
children under 11 years
According to Garuda Purana, if a child dies before the age of 11 years or in the womb, then his cremation is not performed. It is believed that at a young age the soul is less attached to the body. In case of death of the child who has not performed the sacred thread ceremony and the girl child has not started menstruating, he is given water samadhi or is immersed in it.
on death from infectious disease
If the cause of death of a person is a serious infectious disease, then cremation of his dead body is considered prohibited. There is a scientific approach behind this rule. If such a person is cremated, infectious diseases can spread in the air, causing disease to other people, hence ground cremation is considered appropriate for such a dead body.

Cremation of people who have renounced family life and taken sannyasa is also prohibited. This is because the senses of saints are under their control. They have no attachment to the body. This is the reason why divine men are given land or water samadhi.
