It is seen in the video that within a few seconds a huge amount of soil, stones and debris falls down from the hill, causing chaos among the people present on the spot. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in this accident, while many people have been injured. Relief and rescue operations are continuing.
Horrific scene of landslide seen in CCTV
The incident took place on Tuesday near Meenakshi Bridge at Kallady in Wayanad, where the construction work of the Anakkampoyil-Kallady-Meppadi Tunnel Road project is underway. According to initial information, a large part of the hill suddenly collapsed due to continuous heavy monsoon rains. It can be seen in the viral CCTV footage that people present in the complex suddenly start running here and there to save their lives after seeing the debris coming down at a high speed.
Some people narrowly escape, while many get hit by the debris. The severity of the accident can be gauged from the fact that the strong flow of debris even pushed a tanker truck several metres.

People buried under debris found safe, sigh of relief
The most disturbing part of the video shows a couple and another person falling under the debris. For a few moments it seemed that they would not survive, but after the dust and debris settled, the three men were seen getting up and walking out safely. This scene certainly gave hope for relief, but the seriousness of the accident did not diminish.
According to the latest information, three people have lost their lives in this landslide. Many injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital and some people are also reported missing.
Relief campaign continues, questions raised again on construction project
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire Force and local administration are continuously conducting operations in search of people trapped under the debris. At the same time, after this incident, questions have once again started being raised regarding the ongoing construction projects in the landslide affected areas of the Western Ghats.
Environmental experts have already expressed concern about this tunnel road project. However, the real reasons for this accident will be known only after the investigation is completed. At present, the administration has appealed to the people to stay away from the affected area and rely only on official information.
