Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [भारत]July 7 (ANI): Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting on the situation of heavy rains in the state and directed officials to ensure round-the-clock preparedness, immediate deployment of disaster response teams wherever necessary and timely evacuation of people from vulnerable areas.
The meeting was held through video conference in Gandhinagar in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded in many parts of the state in the last 24 hours, according to a release. The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the current situation and disaster management preparedness with senior officials of the affected districts.
The release said that Sanghvi took stock of the ground situation by talking to Collectors, Superintendents of Police, District Development Officers and Municipal Commissioners of Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Bhavnagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Dangs, Tapi, Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts.
Important instructions to officials
The Deputy Chief Minister directed all district administrations to be proactive round the clock to deal with any emergency and ensure that the control rooms function continuously.
He also directed officials to immediately deploy National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams wherever necessary in low-lying areas and areas affected by heavy rainfall.
According to the release, instructions were also issued to timely evacuate residents of waterlogged and flood-prone areas to designated shelters and provide food, drinking water and medical facilities.
Officials were also directed to continuously monitor roads, power supply and communication networks to minimize disruption caused by heavy rains.
“The state government is constantly monitoring the situation. Ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens during the emergency is the top priority of the government,” Sanghvi said, adding that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure close coordination and prompt response among the district administrations.
